Leading edge treatment options
The Cancer Center at Huntington Hospital is recognized as the top brachytherapy center in Southern California. Our radiology oncology specialists have performed more seed implant procedures than any other hospital in the region.
Breast brachytherapy – also known as internal radiation therapy – is a targeted approach that uses a radiation seed placed within the breast to treat the lumpectomy cavity while protecting surrounding tissue.
Brachytherapy allows our doctors to precisely deliver customized doses of radiation directly to the specific areas where it’s needed most.
Compared with six weeks of conventional external radiation therapy, individualized brachytherapy treatment can be completed in as little as 5 days and with fewer side effects.

If you’ve been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer, you may be eligible for a shortened 5-day course of radiation therapy with SAVI.
“The SAVI treatment allows the physician to sculpt the dose of radiation therapy to the targeted breast tissue, while sparing normal healthy tissues. It is currently the preferred method of APBI delivery at Huntington Memorial Hospital.”
