Pediatrics
When a child is sick or injured, Huntington Hospital is standing by to provide the best of care, in a comforting and caring atmosphere. In our pediatrics, pediatric intensive care, and neonatal intensive care units; through our educational and support services; and through our emergency department and Center for Trauma Care, Huntington Hospital provides superior care to children of all ages. Serving patients from day-old infants to youth through age 18, our pediatric care services are age-appropriate and sensitive to the special needs of the young. Huntington Hospital's pediatric care facilities have been specially designed with young patients in mind. Not simply adult units with a few beds allocated for children, the areas of Huntington Hospital which serve the young are bright, child-friendly, and as much like home as possible. In creating these facilities, we have also not forgotten adolescents and teens, who find here an environment very much suited to their special needs. Many of the physicians and surgeons who practice at Huntington Hospital are also affiliated with Children's Hospital Los Angeles. In addition, Huntington Hospital's in-house physicians work closely with each child's community pediatrician, to ensure optimal continuity of care.
Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
Young patients who require intensive care are transferred to Huntington Hospital's highly specialized pediatric intensive care unit (PICU), the only facility of its kind in the San Gabriel Valley. Our stand-alone PICU has eight beds dedicated exclusively to the care of the sickest young patients, and the unit is staffed by a full team of physicians and nurses who specialize in the care of seriously ill children. Several pediatric specialists, including, but not limited to, cardiologists, general surgeons, hematologists, orthopedists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, and pharmacists, are on call around the clock.
Pediatric Surgery
At Huntington Hospital, a comprehensive range of inpatient and outpatient surgical procedures are available for children, ranging from simple tonsillectomy to highly complex surgeries. For young patients requiring inpatient surgery, the hospital offers surgical suites specifically designed for pediatric surgery. Some are specially heated for our smallest patients, and all include monitoring and surgical equipment designed to meet the special care needs of the young.
