Treatment for Parkinson's Disease
Thanks to research conducted in recent decades, many treatments are available to help manage PD. You and your medical team
will select the best treatment approach for you based on your symptoms and needs.
Although there is not yet a cure for PD, medications can help you manage your symptoms. The goal of treatment is to maximize the management of symptoms while minimizing troublesome side effects; you
should work with your doctor to determine which medication is right for you.
Many PD treatments can be used alone (referred to as monotherpy) or in combination with one another (referred to as adjunct therapy).
Several types of brain surgery have emerged as treatment options if currently available medication is not effective or if your symptoms have progressed tot the point that prescription medications no
longer offer benefit. For more information about surgical options, talk to your doctor.
