Huntington Memorial Hospital is pleased to announce that local entrepreneur Sharon Arthofer has joined its board of directors, effective January 1, 2014.
“We are delighted to welcome Sharon to our board at such a monumental juncture in the healthcare industry,” said Stephen A. Ralph, Huntington Hospital’s president and CEO. “Her extensive business expertise as well as her commitment to our community will help us meet the current challenges of healthcare reform head-on.”
Arthofer was instrumental in the growth of Wetzel’s Pretzels from a single store to a national franchise with more than 250 outlets. She was the company’s first franchisee and worked closely with other potential franchisees, in addition to developing standards of excellence for the company. Today, she continues to operate two Wetzel’s Pretzels stores. In addition, she and her husband, Frank Arthofer, invest in and develop residential and commercial real estate in Southern California and on the east coast.
After completing bachelor’s degrees in economics and business from North Carolina State University, Arthofer began her multifaceted career in consumer marketing working for Nestle USA and Time, Inc. in New York. Her retail career, which dates back more than 30 years, began when she founded a retail business in Westchester County, NY. She sold the business in 1992.
In addition to her board membership at Huntington Hospital, Arthofer previously served on the board of Foothill Family Services for six years, including two years as chairman. Her community involvement has included volunteering at the schools her children attended – Clairbourn School and Flintridge Prep – and at the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center, as well as with San Marino Public Library Foundation, L.A. Alive! benefiting the Music Center of Los Angeles County, and National Charity League.
Born and raised in the Washington D.C. area, Arthofer moved to Los Angeles in 1992. She lives with her husband in San Marino. The couple has two adult children, both living in New York.
