Huntington Hospital's commitment to helping local employers maintain a healthy work force has been featured on CNBC's "Healthy Horizons" television program. Huntington currently works with dozens of local employers to help promote a company-wide "culture of wellness" through personal health risk assessments, onsite education and screenings, and other initiatives that help reduce employee health risk.

Featured specifically on the recent CNBC segment was Huntington's work with Panda Restaurant Group, the world's largest and fastest growing Asian restaurant chain. From Panda's offices in Rosemead, the segment showed employees exercising in the Panda gym, participating in a biometric screening to measure body fat percentage and running with company CEO Tom Davin.

"Prevention is the key to good health and that's what Huntington's worksite-focused program is all about," said Dr. Kurt Hong, physician nutrition specialist at Huntington Hospital and Director of the Huntington Center for Human Nutrition. "Promoting good health not only benefits the employees, but can have a dramatic impact on employer's healthcare costs by translating into significant savings in healthcare premiums, absenteeism and workers' compensation claims."

For its employer health program, Huntington partnered with Aegis Health Group, the nation's foremost company in helping hospitals across the country form lasting relationships with area employers while improving the health of the workforces. Aegis' workforce health initiatives can currently be found in more than 60 healthcare organizations and at 4,000 employer sites across the country.

Participating employees at Panda's as well as at other Huntington employer partners -- have the opportunity to complete personal health profiles about family history, lifestyle and current health. Using proprietary Aegis software, the data is used to predict future health risks for each participant. Huntington is then able to offer specific prevention and education programs to help reduce or eliminate those risks. Employers receive the data in aggregate, which protects the private information of employees.

The CNBC "Healthy Horizons" corporate health segment aired September 17 at 10:30 a.m. and 1:40 p.m. pacific time but can still be viewed at Huntington Hospital Featured on CNBC Healthy Horizons
