Movement Disorders Program

The Huntington Hospital Movement Disorders Program provides comprehensive medical and surgical treatment options for patients with Parkinson's disease, essential tremor, dystonia and other movement disorders. To date, over 250 deep brain stimulator implant procedures have been performed at Huntington Hospital.

Huntington Hospital is actively engaged in developing studies to better assess the safety and efficacy of deep brain stimulation for treatment of patients with depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder who do not respond to medical therapy. In addition, a clinical study to evaluate a novel deep brain stimulator implant for treatment of essential tremor is currently underway.

Huntington's Multidisciplinary Movement Disorder Specialists
Our multidisciplinary clinical team includes neurologists, neurosurgeons, psychiatrists, neuropsychologists, neurophysiologists, anesthesiologists, physiatrists, physical therapists and nurse practitioners. The team works very closely to tailor a personalized treatment plan for each patient.

Several of our neurosurgeons hold faculty appointments at California Institute of Technology (Caltech). Caltech scientists and physicians at Huntington Hospital are collaborating on the development of a cortical neural prosthesis to aid paralyzed patients in interacting with their environment.

Support Services
Patient education is an integral component of our program and families play an active role in the treatment process. Although no cure currently exists for Parkinson's disease, Huntington Hospital offers a comprehensive range of pharmacological, physical therapy, and surgical options to assist in controlling the symptoms of Parkinson's disease and improve each patient's quality of life.
