Maternity / Postpartum
Maternity Maintains Special Visiting Hours.
Maternity Visiting Hours for family and friends are from 11 am to 2 pm and 4 pm to 8 pm. Nesting Time, the hours between 2pm to 4 pm, are set aside just for mom, baby and husband or partner to get to know each other.
There is a limit of three (3) visitors per patient at any one time.
Please stop at the lobby information desk to obtain your pass to the room.
Additional visitors will be asked to wait in the lobby until a room pass is available.
It is a good idea to make sure that family and friends are aware of the visiting hours before they come to the hospital to see you and your baby.
After approximately 1½ hours in the Labor/Deliver/Recover (LDR) room, or approximately 2 hours in the Recovery Room after a Cesarean birth, mom and baby, depending upon their medical needs, will go to our Maternity/Postpartum area. Our goal is to keep mom and baby together as much as possible. In fact, both will share the same nursing team during their hospital stay. This innovative postpartum care program, called Couplet Care, ensures that a mother and her baby’s needs are addressed in concert. Couplet Care encourages new mothers to participate in the care and development of their new babies. All of our nurses are specially trained to help mothers get off to a good start with both breastfeeding and skin-to-skin bonding. Lactation specialists are also available to provide additional assistance, if necessary, with individual breastfeeding issues.
The postpartum stay is designed to provide each mother and baby with the medical care, the practical hands-on education and the support necessary help a new family get started. Infant care and postpartum adjustments are also addressed in the Mother/Baby Discharge class offered every morning. Fathers and partners are encouraged to attend. This class is designed to help the new family bridge the birth and hospital experience to going home with a new baby.
Visit our Breastfeeding Center to see the support services offered by our certified lactation consultants in our full service Breastfeeding Center. The free Breastfeeding Support Group is also offered very Thursday morning (except legal holidays) from 10 to 11:30am in Research Conference Hall. No pre-registration is required.
