House Staff Duty Hours for Surgery Residents

Purpose: To provided a General Surgery Residency Program statement regarding resident hours as required for the Accreditation Council for Graduate medical Education ("ACMGE") and the Joint Commission by the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations ("JCAHO").

Outside Employment Policy

Purpose: To establish the Institution's policy for permitting and regulating outside employment ("moonlighting") as it relates to the residents and to ensure a system exists to ensure the needs and responsibilities of the residents, the sponsoring institution and the GME office are met.

Resident Re-Appointment, Promotion and Non-Renewal

Purpose: To establish institutional guidelines for re-appointment, promotion and non-renewal of resident contracts.

Due Process Procedure

Purpose: Whenever the activities of a resident are considered to be lower than the standards or aims of the training department, or to be disruptive to the operation of the hospital, corrective action against such resident may be requested by any member of the teaching faculty. All requests for corrective action shall be in writing and be directed to the proper Program Director. Please refer to the postgraduate agreement for additional information.
