Complementary Medicine
The Huntington Hospital Cancer Center was founded on the
philosophy of a whole-person, patient-centered approach to cancer care.
Our team of cancer experts combines cancer treatments from a variety of
disciplines into one integrative care plan to support patients in body,
mind and spirit. Our cancer center provides patients with a range of
complementary services designed to support them through each phase of
their cancer treatment.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is believed to stimulate the energy flow (or
“chi”). When energy flows freely through the meridians, the immune
system is stimulated; this is thought to bring on a healing response and
balance. The goal of acupuncture is to restore balance and healthy
energy flow to the body to control pain and other symptoms. The
Huntington Hospital Cancer Center provides on-site access to physicians
certified in acupuncture therapy for symptom relief, immune system
stimulation and pain control for those patients seeking a complementary
therapeutic approach to their cancer treatment.
Nutrition Counseling
At the Huntington Hospital Cancer Center we believe that
nutrition should be a key component of the patient’s personalized cancer
treatment plan. A registered dietitian with specialized training in
oncology nutrition provides a comprehensive nutritional assessment,
education and supplementation — with an emphasis on proactive
nutritional intervention to each patient. Our goal is to prevent
malnutrition, reduce side effects, promote positive healthy eating
habits, and enhance the overall well-being and quality of life of our
patients.
Pink Ribbon Moves
In addition to maintaining a healthy weight, eating a
nutritious diet, limiting alcohol intake and getting plenty of exercise,
Pink Ribbon Moves is for individuals who have had surgery for breast
cancer. This program is designed to improve the breast cancer patient’s
physical stamina and their overall sense of well-being during their
treatment and recovery. This program requires a physician referral and
is free of charge.
