Community Benefits and Outreach
When Pam Meyer was born at Huntington Memorial Hospital, our Valentine Building (pictured in the background), served as the hospital’s maternity wing. Today, the Valentine Building is the location of special caregiver education classes, provided by Huntington Hospital Senior Care Network, and Pam comes here to participate.
Since its inception in 1964, Senior Care Network — one of the hospital’s essential community-based programs — has provided services that help community members to manage their own health and to care for loved ones. Its work is part of a broad array of community outreach and education services offered by Huntington Hospital. Other important programs include Healthy Eating Lifestyle Program, as well as Pasadena Community Asthma Program and other chronic-disease prevention and education services. Each year, Huntington Hospital nurses also provide various health screenings and flu vaccinations at locations throughout the community.
Throughout our history, such programs have fulfilled our mandate as a nonprofit community institution to provide services not covered by patient reimbursements. We have far exceeded the requirements of this mandate, however — providing nearly $900 million in community benefits since we began tracking this information in 1997. By offering a full spectrum of quality care and education for all members of the community — including those who would otherwise lack access — we support the overall well-being of our region.
Our essential community benefit and outreach services help ensure that local residents have the right care, in the right place, at the right time, which in turn helps prevent future, more serious healthcare problems. Our investment in these services not only reflects our commitment to quality and sustainability; it is also central to our overarching mission — to excel at the delivery of healthcare to our community. We see it, quite simply, as the right thing to do. To find out more about how you can help support this funding priority at the hospital, please call (626) 397-3241.
