Community Outreach
Chronic Disease Prevention Program
The Healthy Eating Program for Adults focuses on healthy food
choices, exercise, weight-loss and disease prevention. The classes are
interactive, with activities and question-answer sessions.
The Healthy Eating Lifestyle Program was designed by experts,
including doctors, registered dietitians, and exercise specialists.
The program includes the following sessions:
Healthy Choices and Food Portions
We
will discuss the different nutrients in foods and how to include
healthy food choices everyday. Information regarding correct serving
sizes and portions for foods is also covered.
Eating Out and Eating at Home
Be
encouraged to choose better options when eating out at restaurants or
fast food places. We give out recipes, talk about a healthy kitchen and
provide activities that encourage better choices. We will discuss why
breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
Food Label Reading
Learn
the important facts on packaged foods. We will review the terms on a
food label, ingredients, how much fat, sugar, and sodium we need per
day, and give out recipes.
Disease Prevention
Learn
how to decrease your risk for developing diseases and how to manage
pre-existing conditions. Topics covered include diabetes, high blood
pressure, heart disease, and high cholesterol.
