Cardiac Research

In addition to superior diagnosis, intervention, patient education and post-treatment services, the Heart Center at Huntington Hospital is also a respected research facility. Our extensive investigative efforts link patients to the most advanced and emerging treatment protocols, often years before such protocols become available to the general public. The Heart Center undertakes advanced clinical trials involving the newest pharmaceuticals and care technologies. Especially among patients who have not responded to traditional treatments, participation in such trials can offer significant hope and improved life outcomes.

Our programs of research are staffed by physician investigators, with support from a specialized cardiac research nurse.

The Heart Center at Huntington maintains a close relationship with the University of Southern California's School of Medicine, further ensuring patients access to leading experts in cardiac care. Bringing together university-affiliated professionals in Huntington Hospital's regional medical center setting, the heart center ensures the most beneficial combination of academic medicine and individualized, patient-focused care.

Huntington is also helping prepare the medical practitioners of the future. Residents and fellows here are working toward Board certification in internal medicine, general surgery, cardiothoracic and vascular surgery. A cadre of international fellows also pursue training here, permitting still broader dissemination of the substantial knowledge base. Heart Center physicians and surgeons have authored numerous texts in the field, and are sought out by other practicing physicians eager to learn the advanced techniques we have pioneered. The Heart Center at Huntington Hospital understands the supreme importance of the physician-patient relationship throughout the care process. Our programs of medical education therefore not only promote clinical excellence; they also include innovative training designed to promote the communication skills of our physicians and nurses.
